The Alpe Adria cycle path, between mountains and sea
The Alpe Adria cycle route begins with a highlight: Mozart's city, Salzburg. It continues like this: the valleys to see line up one after the other on your way to the Adriatic. At the beginning, the idyllic Salzach valley with its green pastures, followed by the Gasteinertal with the absolute highest point - in the true sense of the word - Bad Gastein, located high in the mountains and finally at the end of the first section, the Tauernschleuse Böckstein. - Mallnitz.
After a train ride you descend to the Mölltal, through the impressive high mountain landscape you reach the sunny Drautal with the beautiful towns of Spittal and Villach.
After the Gailtal you cross the border and finally find yourself on the old railway line, above the wild and rugged canal valley. You will first take the section along the Tagliamento and Cormor rivers, the very lively Udine awaits you. From there you cross the plain towards the Adriatic - via Palmanova and Aquileia you take the historic Via Julia Augusta to the lagoon and finally reach the ancient fishing village of Grado with its lively seaside life.
