From the Atlantic to the Black Sea, the cycle route of the rivers
When it was created, this cycle route was also nicknamed “the cycle route of the rivers”. From Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, you follow the Loire by bike to Nevers then Digoin, where the Canal du Center takes over to the Saône. After a few pedal strokes in the heart of Burgundy, the Doubs accompanies cyclists to leave them in the hands of the Rhine which devotes itself to the sources of the Danube. EuroVelo 6 now follows until its mouth, the second largest river in Europe by its length, passing through magnificent cities such as Passau, Vienna, Budapest or Belgrade.
EuroVelo 6: the most successful European cycle route
If EuroVelo 6 is the most popular route, it is largely thanks to its infrastructure and markings. The route is fully signposted from Saint-Brévin-les-Pins to Belgrade and, from the Rhine to Belgrade, cyclists have the chance to cycle most of the time on dedicated cycle paths.
If you want to embark on a great cycle touring adventure, this is certainly the route to take. Between magnificent towns, a very rich heritage (Loire châteaux) and wilder portions, it is a real pleasure and a paradise for cyclists.
