Tourism in the Bas-Rhin department on foot and by bike

The new IGN TOP100 map of Bas-Rhin invites you to discover a department offering a range of landscapes as varied as they are magnificent, from the alluvial plains of the Rhine to the ridges of the Vosges, via vineyards and forests. This geographical diversity gives it a unique charm and invites many discoveries.

  • The Alsace plain: This is the economic and agricultural heart of the department, characterized by its vast cultivated areas, its atypical villages and its canals.
  • The Northern Vosges: This mountain range with its dense forests, rocks and steep valleys is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers.
  • The Ried: Located in the east of the department, the Ried is a marshy and humid region, rich in biodiversity. There are many species of birds and specific vegetation.
  • The vineyards: The Bas-Rhin is famous for its Alsace wines. The vineyards are spread out on the hillsides, offering magnificent panoramas.

For hikers:

  • GR5: Long-distance route that crosses the Northern Vosges.
  • GR53: Connecting Wissembourg to the Col de l'Engin, in Moselle.
  • GR de Pays: The Bas-Rhin also has several GR de Pays trails such as the Pays de la Zorn or the Kochersberg.

For cyclists (in partnership with the AF3V):

  • The Rhin Cycle Route: An iconic route that follows the course of the Rhine and crosses the Bas-Rhin for a good part of its length.
  • The Voie Verte du Canal de la Marne au Rhin: It follows the Marne-Rhine Canal and crosses the Bas-Rhin from north to south.
  • The Voie Verte de la Bruche: It follows the Bruche valley and offers wilder landscapes, with dense forests and waterfalls.
  • The Greenways of the Northern Vosges: Several greenways crisscross the Northern Vosges.
  • The many local loops: The Bas-Rhin also offers many local loops, such as the vineyards of Alsace, typical villages or forests.

For families: "For a family discovery, the map is ideal. It allows you to plan outings according to each person's interests: beaches, natural parks, historical sites... The clear legends and illustrations make it easier for the youngest to understand."
