This 483 km long route crosses the northern foothills of the Alps with their traditional habitat and culture over passes and gorges. This route requires a good physical condition and offers magnificent views of the high mountains and the Plateau.

It starts in St. Margrethen and leads through the Appenzell and Glarus countries to the Klausen Pass at 1948m.

Then it descends in the direction of central Switzerland, climbs the Glaubenbielenpass, crosses the Entlebuch and the Emmental, reaches Thun and then Fribourg.

After crossing Gruyère and the Vaud Alps, it ends in Aigle.
