In Stevenson's Footsteps on the GR 70
Hike across the vast volcanic plateaus of Velay, the rugged highlands of Gévaudan, the barren ridges of Mont Lozère, the ridges and valleys of the Cévennes des Camisards... So many countries, so many landscapes and stories over 272 km of hiking in Stevenson's footsteps.
"Tomorrow's journey will carry you body and soul to some other parish in infinity." (Walks on Foot, R.L. Stevenson)
The Stevenson Trail, or GR®70, is a legendary long-distance hiking route. It was inspired by the journey of Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who traveled this route in 1878 with his donkey Modestine. This trail offers a unique immersion in the wild and hilly landscapes of the Massif Central. Over nearly 270 kilometers, hikers discover volcanic plateaus, deep forests, valleys, and authentic villages. The GR®70 is well-marked, accessible to all types of hikers, and interspersed with welcoming accommodations throughout the route. It's a path of self-improvement, contemplation, and freedom, where you walk as much for the landscape as for the history it tells.
