Elbe-Radweg 2

Elbe-Radweg 2

Along the River Elbe, by bike (1st part) : from Prag to Magdeburg
Technical information: maps at a 1:75 000 scale, a 152 paged guidebook, 508 km itinerary

The River Elbe water-spring is situated at the Polish border. The river passes then through the mountains of
Bohemia and Elbe Sandstone Mountains (mountain range straddling the border between the state of Saxony in
southeastern Germany and the northern Bohemian region of the Czech Republic) to come out to the North Sea,
near Cuxhaven. The Elbe River course encompasses about 1165 km. In this guidebook, the itinerary starts in
Prag, follows the Vlatava River (merging with the Elbe). Until you reach Magdeburg, you will successively ride
along both river banks. Landscapes are very famous for its fauna and flora, which is the reason why most of the
nature sites you’ll visit are protected.

The Elbe is a major circulation lane: it is navigable from the North Sea to the mountains of Bohemia, on more
than 940 km. The main port cities on the way are Hamburg and Magdeburg.
Length of the itinerary: the whole route is covering approximately 500 km. Alternative routes on approximately
300 km, on the other side of the river, are available in this guidebook.
