La Vélodyssée, from Nantes to Hendaye
You will say to me: "Another guide on the Vélodyssée! ... And in Spanish!". Well yes, quite simply because it is a BICI: MAP guide of Iberian origin, reliable and detailed maps, concise and filtered information for cyclists, and above all, simple and direct Spanish. The guide covers the French part as close as possible to the Atlantic coast, from Nantes to the Spanish border, and suggests covering the 879 km in 14 days at a comfortable pace which leaves enough time to enjoy a slow journey.
The route is quiet, safe and combines a wide variety of milestones, such as the port city of La Rochelle, the spectacular Pilat dune, Arcachon bay, the Medoc peninsula and its wines, not to mention the endless Landes beaches. The markup is correct and the infrastructure sufficient to travel the Atlantic Coast without problems. 80% use lanes reserved for cyclists, the others do it on local roads with little use. The relief is not very marked (except the last stage in the Basque Country) and therefore you will not need the topographic profile. Without straying too far from the official itinerary, you are offered variants to explore the surroundings and discover the Atlantic islands or villages of particular interest.
This guide includes:
- route comments (quality of the path, distances, water points, etc.),
- orientation of visits,
- practical information (address book for accommodation, catering, etc.),
- alternatives to conflict situations,
- tourist variants,
- and a 1/75 000 cartography worked and easy to read, the strong point of the guide.
